About East House

East House is a private nonprofit mental health agency established in 1966 to provide residential services to adults recovering from mental illness.  Today, we provide residential, rehabilitation, and support services to individuals recovering from mental illness and chemical dependency.  Services include counseling, case management, education and career development services, independent living skills training, social and recreational activities, family education and support.  Services are personally tailored to meet individual needs and coordinated with other service providers.  To learn more about East House, click on the link to read our newsletter Inside East House.

More than 1,300 clients and families benefited last year from East House services, which are provided by over 130 employees.  East House is funded by the New York State Offices of Mental Health, Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services; Monroe County; United Way; client fees; and donations.  A sliding-fee scale is available to ensure access to needed services.

Our Mission

The mission of East House is to improve the quality of life of the individuals we serve, who are recovering from mental illness, chemical dependency or other disabling conditions.

We pursue our mission by providing residential, rehabilitation, and support services to individuals and their families.

Our Philosophy

We acknowledge that major mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia and affective disorders, and chemical dependency are disabling conditions that affect millions of individuals and thousands of local residents.  Although these conditions are serious, they can be successfully treated in the majority of cases.

We believe that a key to successful treatment for individuals is their active involvement in a rehabilitation program that develops the skills and supports necessary for successful community living.

We believe that with the active partnership of East House counselors, family members, and therapists, individuals with such disabling conditions can lead healthier, more satisfying and productive lives with a renewed sense of hope, belonging, and care.

We are committed to providing quality services that are culturally sensitive and responsive to individual and community needs.
